DSEAR Support

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 2002 are concerned with protection against risks from fire, explosion and similar events arising from dangerous substances used or present in the workplace. From June 2015, DSEAR also covers gases under pressure and substances that are corrosive to metals.

KK Risk engineers have an excellent track record of assisting companies manage fire and explosion risks. We can confidently claim to have one of the most experienced pool of engineers with vast knowledge of compliance to DSEAR in the UK and ATEX Directives across Europe.

KK Risk engineers have years of experience of conducting Hazardous Area Classification studies, Mechanical Equipment Ignition Risk Assessments (MEIRA) and ‘Ex’ Electrical Equipment Inspection across a range of industries. Our approach is designed to be systematic, looking not only at control of ignition but at the overall basis of safety for fire and explosion risk management. Although not necessary under DSEAR, KK Risk can produce an Explosion Protection Document (EPD), to support day-to-day fire and explosion risk assessment.

KK Risk’s approach is to minimise the use of the simplified “blanket zone” approach and emphasise the use of a risk-based approach to hazardous area classification. Our experience is that this approach saves operators significant operational expenditure in the specification and maintenance of ‘Ex’-rated electrical and mechanical equipment.
