Performance Standards Development

A Performance Standard is a statement of the performance required of a system, item of equipment or computer program, expressed in qualitative or quantitative terms, which is used as the basis for integrity assurance throughout the asset / system life cycle.

As part of the Performance Standard Development scope, KKRisk recommends inclusion of a high-level outline of the written scheme of examination (WSE), which defines the verification tasks required to provide assurance that the asset / system performance will be within acceptable limits for each clause of the Performance Standard.

It should be noted that the outline WSE included in the Performance Standard is not intended to be a detailed scope of inspection.

Our approach to Performance Standards Development involves a two-stage process:

  1. Desktop review of client’s HAZID / HAZOP studies, piping and instrumentation diagrams, project design documentation, and followed by a preliminary identification of Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs).
  2. The second stage involves a team-based workshop facilitated by KKRisk but drawing on the experience and knowledge of the client’s design and operations teams.  The workshop will serve to validate the preliminary list of SECEs, and to identify the key parameters to be included in the Performance Standards and their associated verification tasks.
